Teens save another teen at Lake Arcadia

EDMOND, OKLA (KFOR) — A 17-year-old was rescued at Arcadia Lake over the weekend after two teenage girls got into action. Both teens said they were shocked no one else intervened quickly to help with the water rescue.

“No one helped us because there were tons of adults. We’re just two girls trying to keep it afloat,” said Kensey Banner who helped save the teen.

A warm sunny Friday afternoon took a turn when Kensey Banner and Brianna Alston heard someone needing help.

“Just about 10 minutes after we got in the water, we heard a young man screaming for help – he was like frantic,” Banner said.

That’s when they took action.

“That’s when a friend of ours launched a buoy so we could, you know, keep it afloat,” Banner said.

The two men finally brought the young man back to shore.

“I’m glad we were able to reach him in time before he went underwater,” Banner said.

Two teenage heroes in need of help from others, but said no one stepped up to the plate, until a retired lifeguard came along.

“She started asking him questions. And then that's when another man arrived. But no one had called 911 or anything. So I was screaming, call 911. He needs help. Call 911. Nobody had called 911,” Banner said.

Edmond au Lac police confirmed a call was made around 4:30 p.m.

They said the teen was sent by ambulance to the hospital.

“I can’t even imagine how scary that must have been for him,” Banner said.

The two heroes now wish to remind the others of this before setting out on the water.

“Always make sure there are people around you that you can trust or maybe even someone that could help you if something goes wrong,” said Brianna Alston, who also helped rescue the teenager.

Police have not been able to confirm the name of the teenage victim at this time or how he is doing.
