Teens Launch Future Careers Through Crowder College Summer Program | KSNF/KODE

NEOSHO, Mo. — A group of teenagers aren't letting their brains take summer off. In fact, they may be beginning their life's work.

You're never too young to start planning for your future.

That’s one of the goals of Crowder College’s 8th annual CTEC Summer Program.

This is an eight-week event open to students entering grades six through eight.

During this time, attendees will learn about several technology programs offered at Crowder College that could become some students' future careers.

“So we have six programs: health sciences, criminal justice, construction, computer technology, agriculture, and so students can choose four to spend time on each week as part of our summer session,” said McKenzie. Conner, assistant director of CTE at Crowder College.

The camp came highly recommended to Greyson Crane, who is not the first in his family to attend.

“I come to this event because my brothers have told me a lot of good things about it and I feel like I'm having a lot of fun and a good time,” said Middle School 6th grader Greyson Crane Neosho.

“So this year we have the largest number of students enrolled in our summer program, we have one hundred and thirty students from the Diamond, East Newton, Neosho and Seneca school districts,” said McKenzie Conner, CTE assistant superintendent of the Crowder College.

Conner says it's not at all unusual for program participants to return to Crowder as high school students working with dual credit or even after graduating from high school as a Crowder student .
