CHICAGO — Streeterville's alderman is calling on the city council to impose a curfew after recent crimes in the area involving teenagers.

The latest includes a couple who reported being physically assaulted while walking down the street. The attack reportedly took place in late May near the corner of McClurg Court and Grand Avenue in the Streeterville neighborhood.

Police said a 40-year-old man and woman were approached by a group of people, resulting in a 17-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy being charged with crimes after police said the victims had been hit on the head and had their hair pulled.

This alleged attack has also led Second Ward Alderman Brian Hopkins to now ask his fellow City Council members to impose an 8 p.m. curfew for underage teens who are in the downtown area without an adult .

WGN spoke with a business owner who said he fears he will have to close his business because of the crime.

Alderman Brian Hopkins says he hopes the curfew will keep teens from using the AMC movie theater as a hangout.

He also hopes it will attract more tourists to the area.
