Teens arrested after setting off fireworks in Hermosa Beach – NBC Los Angeles

Several people were injured Saturday night when a group of teenagers on electric bikes set off fireworks in Hermosa Beach, police said.

The incident was reported as an explosion at Pier Plaza around 8:30 p.m., police said. Police determined that it was in fact fireworks set off by a group of minors who fled the scene.

John Fahmy, who was walking in the area at the time of the incident, was hit by one of the fireworks.

“So it hit me in the back of my head here and partially in the back of my ears,” Fahmy said. “And yeah, it was like my ears were ringing crazy for a few minutes.”

Police were able to arrest two boys suspected of being involved in the incident and called their parents. Because law enforcement believes these individuals were not the ones who set off the fireworks, they have not been arrested.

Officials added that video taken of the incident helped them identify the individual who set off the fireworks. This boy has not yet been arrested.

The injuries were minimal and ranged from ringing in the ears to a few burn marks on T-shirts. It is unclear how many people were injured in the incident.

Saturday's incident comes as coastal communities encounter teenagers on e-bikes, causing problems in the form of assaults, vandalism and driving vehicles on sidewalks.
