Teenagers may face 8 p.m. curfew in this Illinois city

There may not be much point in staying out late for some Illinois teens.

Many of us broke curfew when we were teenagers, but kids who do so could now be in legal trouble.

According to NBC Chicago, a Chicago city council member has proposed an 8 p.m. curfew for the city's teens.

The curfew would apply to unaccompanied minors (under 17) in the city's central business district. This includes the Loop, Streeterville, River North and the South and West Loop.

If this law were to pass, police could arrest and ticket minors who violate this policy. This wouldn't be the first curfew in Chicago, as last year curfews were put in place on the city's beaches and at Millennium Park. Currently, the citywide curfew for minors is 10 p.m.

The idea for the curfew follows a recent incident in Streeterville, where teenagers allegedly attacked a 40-year-old man and a 41-year-old pregnant woman. The municipal councilor who proposed the curfew declared on this subject:

I do not believe that all of the miners present at these recent rallies have bad intentions, but it is unfortunately clear that a few agitators and ringleaders have repeatedly incited violent and chaotic actions, and this activity cannot be tolerated. .

Officials are divided on the curfew suggestion. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson is not a fan of the idea, although Chicago Police Department Superintendent Larry Snelling supports it. The curfew proposal was just presented at today's city council meeting, so there's still some way to go if it were to pass.
