Teenager Veljko Ljumović tops singles and doubles at first MTL league tournament

The “Montenegro Teqball League” (MTL) started with a sensation at the first summer tournament in Herceg Novi – 16-year-old Veljko Ljumović celebrated, both in individual and doubles!

The young member of the “Steqers” team, Ljumović, won the singles title for the first time by defeating the best singles player from Montenegro, Marko Žarković, and then, together with Matija Bojović, he also won the doubles.

The singles final at Igalo Park brought together the best tkball from the first tournament of the summer tour. In front of full stands, Ljumović and Žarković put on a real show, which was unfortunately interrupted before the end due to Marko Žarković's injury, while Ljumović led in the deciding set 9:7.

Žarković took the lead in the match with 12:5, Ljumović responded with equal measure, then Žarković was forced to abandon the match, as he could not continue.

Ljumović reached the final thanks to his doubles partner Matija Bojović in the semi-final – 2:0 (12:11, 12:9), while Žarković was better than Samir Fetić in the semi-final, also in straight sets – 12:2, 12:3. . Young Matija Bojović, a young player from FK Budućnosti, showed that we have serious new players, as he beat Andrija Jovanović of the national team 2:0 (7:12, 12:14) in quarter-finals.

Marko Žarković's injury disrupted the plans of the TEQ Budućnost team, so together with Andrija Jovanović he was forced to abandon the match against PG Teqers in the semifinals. In the second duel of the battle for the final, Steqers was better than Borc from Bjelopolje in two sets – 7:12, 10:12.

For the first time since the launch of the Montenegrin Taekbol League, there were no members of the national team, Žarković and Jovanović, winners of three MTL winter circuit tournaments, in the final, but the final lived up to expectations . Steqers celebrated after the 2:1 turnaround (10:12, 12:7, 12:6) and won the prize for the best team in the 12-couple competition.

The singles tournament was played by 14 competitors from Montenegro.

“First of all, I wish Mark a speedy recovery. I hope it is not a serious injury and that there will be a rematch in the next tournament. On the other hand, well Of course, I am very happy with the victories in both competitions, especially since I am one of the youngest, I am looking forward to participating in the next tournaments,” said Ljumović.

In addition to good taekbol, visitors, especially the youngest, had the opportunity to try their hand at the “Elite Skills Arena” and “LOB Subsoccer” fan zones, participating in interesting activations. Before the final, an Intersport competition for younger categories was organized and the ideal sport for the TEQ table, TEQ Voly, was presented by the members of the Albatros Volleyball Club of Herzegovina.

The great visit and interest in the event in Igalo confirmed that takball is an ideal sport not only for recreation but also for promoting tourism potential, said Dalibor Vuković, Director of Development of the Tourist Board from Herceg Novi.

“From the tourist point of view, it is a very important event, because it is interesting additional content for all guests who are currently in Herceg Novi. A good tournament, a good organization, an entertaining program, which together create a very good atmosphere and I am happy that TO Herceg Novi recognized and supported this project,” said Vuković.

MTL moves to Žabljak, which will host the second outdoor tournament on July 13, and a week later, the continuation of the “Adriatik Teqball League”, a tournament in Bar.
