Teenager stabbed to death on Twickenham playing field

A teenager stabbed to death on a playground in southwest London has been identified as Hazrat Wali, 18.

The Metropolitan Police said the teenager, from Notting Hill, west London, died in hospital on Tuesday after being fatally attacked in Craneford Way, Twickenham.

Officers are currently reviewing surveillance cameras and said witnesses described a fight on the field moments before the teen was stabbed.

Chief Inspector Vicky Tunstall, from Specialist Crime Command, said: “We are still working to establish the motive for this tragic attack and are following a number of leads.

“Officers recovered CCTV cameras in the area and spoke to a number of witnesses who described seeing a fight moments before Hazrat’s attack.

“We know there were a lot of people on the ground at the time and I urge anyone who has not yet spoken to police to contact us immediately.”

The teenager was attacked around 4.45pm on Tuesday and died in hospital around an hour later.

His family is being supported by specially trained officers, police said.

The scene of the attack was just metres from Richmond upon Thames College, which confirmed on Wednesday that the victim was one of its students.

College Principal Dr Jason Jones said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the student’s family and friends at this difficult time.

“This loss will certainly raise many emotions, concerns and questions among our students, parents, staff and the local community.”
