Teenager shot dead at Gresham car show

Around 3:15 p.m., Gresham police began receiving calls about a shooting in a parking lot in the 1800 block of Northwest Fairview Drive.

GRESHAM, Ore. — Police are investigating after a 16-year-old boy was shot Saturday afternoon at an antique car show in Gresham.

Around 3:15 p.m., Gresham police began receiving calls about a shooting in a parking lot in the 1800 block of Northwest Fairview Drive. When police responded, they found a teenager suffering from a gunshot wound. A window of a business and a truck also appear to have been damaged by the bullets.

Police applied a tourniquet and paramedics transported the teen, who has not been identified, to hospital. He is expected to survive, police said.

“It was pretty crazy,” Flying Pie Pizzeria employee Nick told KGW. He said there were 40 people in the pizzeria when the incident happened.

“All the kids went to the back with Karen, the manager, and we brought all the parents out into the lobby,” he recalls. “(The man) took off running down the sidewalk right outside our door as we were locking it and pulling towards this truck and then we took off into the Black Bear Diner… we saw him take off and take off until 'at Burnside.

Nick added that he heard the teen was shot in the leg and “the cops let us know he's OK.”

Megan Caron, who attended the car show, described the scene as “chaos.” She said her husband saw the teen being shot in the leg and went to help him.

But it wasn't until the dust cleared that she realized her truck was also damaged. Caron told KGW it appeared his truck was hit at least three times, including one of the tires.

The parking lot is reopened to the public.

Police have interviewed witnesses and are still investigating to determine the cause of the shooting. No arrests were made Saturday evening.

Police told KGW they do not believe there is any danger to the public.
