ST. LOUIS — A teenager was shot and killed by a St. Louis Sheriff's Department deputy Wednesday evening near the Enterprise Center, police said.

The shooting happened around 6:15 p.m. near the intersection of South 14th and Clark streets. Part of the sidewalk outside the Civic Center Transit Center was blocked off with police tape.

A spokesperson for Bi-State Development said MetroLink trains and Metro buses will bypass the nearby Civic Center Transit Center for the foreseeable future.

Eastbound and westbound riders whose destination is Civic Center Station should get off the train at the Union Station MetroLink station where they can board a shuttle to the Civic Center Transit Center.

There have been nine shootings in St. Louis involving a law enforcement officer in 2024. Wednesday night's shooting was the first involving a sheriff's deputy.

Editor's note: Police initially said the person shot was a 20-year-old man. At a press briefing, a St. Louis police lieutenant said the person was a teenager.
