Teenager shot and killed near Dolores Park in SF

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A man was killed after being shot near Mission Dolores Park in San Francisco Wednesday evening, according to the San Francisco Police Department.

Police responded to a report of a shooting around 10:09 p.m. in the 500 block of Dolores Street, which is on the edge of Dolores Park, authorities said. The victim, a 19-year-old man, according to supervisor Rafael Mandelman, was found with multiple gunshot wounds, lying on the ground.

Arriving police officers and paramedics began to assist the gunshot victim. However, the 19-year-old succumbed to his injuries at the scene, SFPD said.

The SFPD Homicide Unit is investigating the fatal shooting.

Mandelman said Dolores Park has faced public safety issues, but is generally a safe place in the city. “We can't live in fear, but people need to be aware of their surroundings,” the District 8 supervisor said.

Mandelman told KRON he asked San Francisco police to increase their presence around the park. “When there's an incident like this, I think it's appropriate that there are more police in that area over the summer,” Mandelman said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the SFPD tip line at (415)-575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 and start the message with SFPD.
