Teenager rushed to hospital after stabbing on bus in Barkingside

A teenager is in hospital after being stabbed in front of horrified passengers on an east London bus.

The victim, 19, was stabbed on a 169 bus on High Road Barkingside on Monday evening.

Police are going through CCTV footage from the bus, but need more witnesses and videos to aid the investigation. The teenager is in a stable condition in hospital after being treated by paramedics on scene.

Detective Inspector Jonathan Potter from the Met's Roads and Transport Command said: “This was a violent attack on a busy London bus and I am sure there are witnesses to the incident who do not are not yet manifested. I invite these people to get in touch without delay.

“Alongside our partners, we are working hard to reduce violent crime and raise awareness among young people of the serious consequences of knife crime.

“Some may mistakenly believe that they will be respected if they carry a knife, but the reality is that in any conflict, the presence of a knife will raise the bar and put everyone, including the knife carrier, in danger.”

Forensic police officers searched the bus while fingertip searches by specialist officers were carried out at the crime scene.

A police statement said: “On Monday June 24 at around 8.35pm a 19-year-old man was attacked on board a route 169 bus in High Road, Barkingside.

“The injured man was taken by the London Ambulance Service [LAS] in a hospital in east London where his condition is stable.

“A road closure has been put in place to allow emergency services to access the scene. This measure has since been lifted.

“Investigations are underway to identify the suspects. There were no arrests.

Anyone who witnessed this incident or has information is asked to call police on 101 or post to X @MetCC quoting 5766/24JUN24.
