Teenager pleads guilty to 2022 murder at Ingraham High School

A teenager who shot and killed another Ingraham High School student in 2022 pleaded guilty to his charges Monday and will spend the next four years of his life in a juvenile rehabilitation center.

The teenager, who has not yet been identified, was sentenced to prison until his 21st birthday. He was 14 years old at the time of the shooting, which occurred on November 8, 2022.

King County prosecutors charged the teen with first-degree murder, first-degree assault and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. The sentence imposed was accepted and recommended by all parties.

According to court documents, the teen shot a 17-year-old student multiple times in the back after they got into a fight in one of the bathrooms at Ingraham HS. The victim later died at the hospital, and the shooter was arrested a short time later by Seattle police.

The King County Prosecutor's Office said the sentence given to the teen was higher than the standard sentence for charges filed in juvenile court. After being released at age 21, he will remain under parole supervision until he is 23.

Another teen involved in the shooting was previously convicted of second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm and first-degree criminal assistance in September 2023.

That teen, who was 15 at the time of the shooting, hid the other teen's handgun in his backpack, according to court documents. He was sentenced to 30 days of detention, 48 hours of community service and 12 months of community supervision.
