HARRISON, New York — A 13-year-old boy who was riding an electric bike on the roof of a parking lot died after going over a wall and falling five stories.

Mark Anthony Giordano was killed in the accident Sunday evening in the garage near the Harrison, New York Metro-North Railroad station.

A group of five miners were riding on the roof and one of them lost control of his e-bike and somehow went over the wall, falling to his death, according to the MTA.

Technicians recovered surveillance video of the incident Monday and the MTA said no foul play was suspected.

Giordano, a student at Louis M. Klein Middle School, is remembered as “the kid with the golden smile.”

At 220 pounds, Giordano wrestled with the high school's varsity team. Team members said he was “always kind, respectful and loving.”

Signs warn not to cycle

Signs throughout the parking lot warn “no cycling,” but neighbor Gary Garofalo says it's a popular spot where young people do just that.

“It's terrible what happened… They all go into the garage, they ride a little bit, then they jump in the elevator with their bikes,” said Garofalo, who lives across the street from the new complex. Avalon Harrison Apartments. next to the garage. “It’s obvious they’re going to the roof.”

The garage has a safety net, but not everywhere

There is safety netting above the walls of the lower levels of the garage, but the fencing on the roof is incomplete and long stretches have no additional protection above the wall at waist height.

We asked the MTA if additional protective measures or police patrols at the garage were planned and will update this story when we hear back.
