Teenager loses hand and leg in shocking Florida shark attack

Lulu Gribbin swam in the sea on her first day at the mother-daughter beach

Shark attacks seem to be becoming all too common in the United States, and now two teenagers have been added to the list after being mauled by a shark.

The mother of one of two girls who were attacked by a shark in Florida has expressed her horror at seeing her daughter “lifeless” afterwards.

The teenagers were attacked this weekend after taking their “first mother-daughter beach trip”, but ended up experiencing “something out of a movie”.

Lulu Gribbin, 15, was swimming on Friday, June 7, on the coast of Florida, when she saw another teenager from Alabama – McCray Faust, 17 – bitten on the foot.

According to WDHN, a 45-year-old woman, Elisabeth Foley, also lost part of her hand in the attack.

Ann Blair Gribbin and her daughters were enjoying their time with other friends from Birmingham when they discovered sharks were in the water.

Shortly after, Lulu's twin sister Ellie broke the news of the terrible incident.

This comes after another woman was attacked an hour and a half earlier, which authorities believe was caused by the same shark.

Horrified by what she saw, the mother wrote on caringbridge.org: “I saw his leg injuries and started screaming. She was lifeless, her eyes closed, her mouth white and pale.

“The wound on her leg or whatever was left of her leg was something out of a movie. I finally came back to her and held her hand and she saw me, and I told her I was there.”

As luck would have it, two doctors were vacationing together at the beach and provided what would have been a life-saving procedure to Lulu, who was then airlifted to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.

Unfortunately, Lulu lost a hand and part of her leg in the horrific attack, but luckily she survived.

The mother wrote: “We prayed the whole way. »

When the mother learned that her daughter had lost her left hand in the attack, her right leg had to be amputated and that she had lost two-thirds of her blood, she said: “Of course, no one wants this for your child but she is alive.

On Saturday, Lulu was able to have her catheter removed and her vital signs were doing well.

Ann wrote: “It was a big first step. Once installed, her first words were: “I did it.” And boy did she do it.

After expressing gratitude to those who helped her daughter that day, she believes it is all part of God's plan.

She wrote: “At this point we will have several surgeries in the coming days and our lives will be changed forever. Lulu is strong, beautiful, brave and many other things that I can't count.

“God has a plan for her, and we will be there to support her in any way we can.”
