A Texas teenager who strangled and beat his mother to death, leaving a trail of teeth and blood all over the family home before stuffing her body into the trunk of a car and leading police on a 110mph chase, has been sentenced. The twisted killer, Tyler Roenz, was sentenced to 40 years in prison for the gruesome murder of his mother, Michelle, in 2022.

The 19-year-old pleaded guilty to brutal assault and tampering with evidence and was jailed Friday. The investigation into Roenz began Oct. 13 when the teen's father, then 17, and his 49-year-old mother were reported missing.

The report was filed after the father returned home to find a tooth in the family garage, as well as a trail of blood leading to the master bedroom – where he discovered a large pool of blood and four additional teeth. He also reported that his wife's black Mazda was missing.

Authorities tracked Tyler Roenz through Oklahoma and Kansas based on license plate readers and a series of credit card purchases at gas stations in Michelle Roenz's name, until that the black Mazda was finally spotted in Nebraska.

Texas authorities alerted Nebraska State Police that the car, which was believed to be in the Cornhusker State, was linked to a recent homicide. About 15 minutes after the alert, state troopers reported spotting the car and attempting a traffic stop, which led to a rapid, high-speed chase, the Mirror US reports.

After a high-speed chase ended in a crash with a tree near Aurora, Nebraska, a 19-year-old man was seriously injured and hospitalized. The shocking discovery of his mother's body in the trunk of the Mazda he was driving led to his arrest in Nebraska before being extradited to Texas.
