Teenager killed, 6 others injured in downtown Lansing shooting

LANSING (WWJ) — A teenager was killed and six other youths were injured when shots were fired into a crowd in downtown Lansing early Monday morning.

Lansing police said officers responded around 3 a.m. on Memorial Day after receiving reports of a shooting in the 300 block of River Front Dr. It was a vibrant downtown area, near Lansing Shuffle and City Market.

At the scene, officers found a large crowd and several gunshot victims, aged between 15 and 20 years old.

A 17-year-old boy was taken to hospital where he died, police said.

At least one other person is in critical condition.

Police do not have a suspect in custody and there is no description of the shooter at this time.

Investigators remained at the scene later Monday, working to determine what led to the shooting, with police calling it an “isolated incident.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the Lansing Police Department at 517-483-4600, extension 5, Crime Stoppers at 517-483-7867, or send a private message through the police department's Facebook page from Lansing.
