Teenager Isabelle Lacy knocks out Madison Brengle for biggest win of her career

British teenager Isabelle Lacy scored the biggest victory of her young career by knocking out third seed Madison Brengle at the Lexus Surbiton Trophy.

The 16-year-old breezed through qualifying and closed a gap of more than 750 places in the rankings to defeat American Brengle 7-6 (2) 5-7 6-1.

Brengle has reached 35 in the world and although at 33 she is now 95, it is a hugely impressive performance from Lacy, who already has a wild card for Wimbledon qualifying thanks to his victory in the British Under-18 title.

A few more performances like this could well see this move to a full wild card.

Dan Evans took a wild card into the men's event after his first round defeat at the French Open and joined Andy Murray in the second round with a 6-4 6-4 victory over Australian James McCabe.

Katie Boulter and Katie Swan were both convincing winners on the women's side – Boulter beat Australian Olivia Gadecki 6-2 6-1 while Swan beat Canadian Carol Zhao 6-2 6-0.

Eden Silva and Sonay Kartal also reached the second round, but Heather Watson was beaten 2-6 7-6 (3) 7-6 (6) by Australian Maddison Inglis and there were defeats for Mark Whitehouse, Billy Harris, Dan Cox and Harry Wendelken. on the men's side.
