Teenager in critical condition in Dublin hospital, four others hospitalized – The Irish Times

A Co Mayo teenager remains in a critical condition in Beaumont Hospital in Dublin following a road crash in Swinford in the early hours of Monday morning.

Four other men, all teenagers, were also injured in the single-vehicle crash just before 4 a.m., but to a lesser extent.

All five come from the Swinford area.

The most seriously injured victim suffered serious head injuries.

It is believed he was a passenger in the vehicle when the driver lost control and the vehicle overturned.

All five were taken by ambulance to Mayo University Hospital, Castlebar.

Four were hospitalized for treatment while the fifth, after assessing his injuries, was then transferred by ambulance to Beaumont Hospital.

Garda forensic investigators investigated the scene of the accident at Deerpark, on the outskirts of Swinford.

The accident happened on a road linking the town of Swinford to the adjacent N5.

The route, known locally as the 'Old Kilkelly Road', was closed for most of Monday and local diversions were in place.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the accident to come forward.

Camera images (including dashcam) are also sought from road users.
