Teenager in critical condition and three others injured after car leaves South Lanarkshire road and burns | UK News

The incident happened on the A721 towards Carluke on Monday at around 10.20pm. Police Scotland are urging anyone with information to come forward.

A teenager is in critical condition and three others were injured after a car left the road and burned.

The gray Ford Ka was traveling west on the A721 towards Carluke, South Lanarkshire, when it left the carriageway near Crawfordwalls Bridge and came to rest partially submerged in water at around 10 p.m. 20 Monday.

Emergency crews responded and a 17-year-old boy was airlifted to the Royal Infirmary in Edinburghwhere medical staff described his condition as critical but stable.

A 19-year-old man was taken to that of Glasgow Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and two men aged 18 and 19 were taken to University Hospital Wishaw.

The road was closed to allow investigation work, with police Scotland urging anyone with information to come forward.

Sergeant Jack Swindells said: “An investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances of what happened.

“I am appealing to any motorists who were traveling on the A721 Kilncadzow/Carnwath Road and may have seen the Ford Ka before it left the road.

“I would also ask anyone with dash cam equipment to check their footage as there may be footage of the vehicle which could assist our investigations.”
