Teenager fatally stabbed during sleepover in Sumter County

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. — A juvenile was fatally stabbed Saturday at a sleepover in Sumter County after the suspect entered the home, authorities said.

According to the Sumter County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a home at 6611 County Road 148 in response to a stabbing around 10:11 p.m.

The police discovered two victims, including an adult and a minor. The incident occurred during a sleepover that the minor victim was having.

The suspect, 16-year-old Alex Hernandez, whom the victim knew, arrived unexpectedly and “knocked” on the door, according to a sheriff's office report.

When the minor victim went to open the door, Hernández entered the house. Hernandez then stabbed the juvenile victim and threatened a third victim.

When the adult victim came to see what was happening, the suspect stabbed him as well, the report states.

Both victims were treated on scene by emergency medical services and then airlifted to area hospitals.

Hernández fled on foot, but was apprehended shortly after.

The minor victim was pronounced dead at 1:19 a.m.

The adult victim remains in hospital receiving treatment for his injuries.

Hernandez was taken to the Sumter County Jail and charged with premeditated first-degree murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, and armed burglary.
