Teenager dead after shooting in Avondale

The shooting happened near the intersection of Avondale Boulevard and Van Buren Street Saturday evening. Here are the latest details.

AVONDALE, Ariz. — A teenager has died after a shooting in Avondale, according to the city's police department.

Avondale police said they were called to the 800 block of 111th Lane around 8:45 p.m. Saturday for a shooting. It's near the intersection of Avondale Boulevard and Van Buren Street.

They found a teenager who had been shot in the head. This boy was taken to a nearby hospital where he died.

Detectives are at the scene of the shooting and investigating and police say there is no threat to the community.

No further details about the shooting have been released.
