Teenager charged with stabbing father of two

An 18-year-old man has been charged with murder after a father-of-two was stabbed.

Leon Penman, 20, from Bedford, died after an incident in Riverfield Drive, Bedford, with emergency services called shortly before 2:00 p.m. BST on Friday.

Jacob Zuco, of Kimble Drive, was remanded in custody to appear before Luton magistrates on Monday.

In a statement released by police, Mr Penman's family said: “Léon was a much loved son, brother and father to two beautiful daughters and a friend to many.”

He added: “Léon will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

“We are all truly devastated.”

“Shocking incident”

Detective Inspector Dale Mepstead, of the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said: “Our thoughts are very much with Leon’s family and friends at this extremely difficult time.

“We understand this is a shocking incident for the local community and we want to reassure them that detectives have worked tirelessly on this case, to secure a charge.

“I would like to thank members of the public who were at the scene for all their help, as well as those who have since come forward with information.

“I would continue to encourage anyone with information to contact us.”

An autopsy is expected to take place.
