Teenager arrested over Scottish playground assault that left pensioner hospitalised

A teenager has been arrested by Police Scotland officers in connection with an assault on a pensioner which required hospital treatment.

The young man was arrested by police following an incident last month which left the 72-year-old with serious facial injuries.




Police said today the young man had been “arrested and charged in connection with a serious assault on a playground” in Innerleithen.

The 16-year-old will be reported to the procurator fiscal over the incident, which is alleged to have taken place in the town of Borders on Saturday, June 8, 2024.

Police said the alleged altercation took place at a playground “at the end of Hall Street in the town” and the victim was “treated in hospital” after being “assaulted”.

Police posted about the incident on the Scottish Borders Police Facebook page. Inspector Joe Carmichael of the crime squad said: “I would like to thank the public for their assistance in our inquiries.”
