Teenager arrested on suspicion of murder after stabbing in Bedford

An 18-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder after he was fatally stabbed in a busy area of ​​Bedford, police said.

Emergency services were called shortly before 2pm on Friday to reports that a man had been stabbed in Riverfield Drive, Bedfordshire Police said.

A man in his 20s was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after.

The 18-year-old was arrested and taken into custody for questioning on Friday after a murder investigation was launched by the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit.

Although the victim has not yet been formally identified, police said his family is receiving support.

Detective Inspector Dale Mepstead said: “We understand that incidents such as this have a significant impact on our residents.

“Our thoughts go first and foremost to the loved ones of the man who lost his life in such atrocious circumstances.

“This incident occurred in a busy area with several people present.

“There is no place for knife crime in our society and we will continue to do all we can to combat it.”
