Teenager arrested following alleged attack on woman on Cork forest trail

A teenager has been arrested in connection with an alleged assault on a forest trail in Co Cork.

The incident took place at around 7.10pm on Thursday June 6, when a woman aged in her 30s was attacked by a man while walking on the forest trails at Island Wood in Newmarket, in County Cork.

The woman did not require medical attention following the incident.

Gardaí investigations have confirmed that a teenage boy has been arrested and is currently detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda station in West Cork.

Gardaí have renewed their appeal for witnesses.

A statement from the force said: “All road users who were traveling near Island Wood, on the outskirts of Newmarket and surrounding areas, on Thursday June 6, between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m., and who may have images of camera (including dash cam and action cameras) is requested to make it available to Gardaí.

“Anyone who was walking, cycling, running or visiting the footpaths in Island Wood that evening and who may have noticed any unusual activity is asked to contact investigating Gardaí.”

Anyone with information that could assist Gardaí with their investigation is asked to contact Mallow Garda Station on 022 31450, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
