Teenager arrested at Gatwick after counter-terrorism police operation

A 17-year-old boy was arrested by counter-terrorism police after landing at Gatwick.

The boy was arrested on Sunday under the anti-terrorism law.

The police examined his mobile phone and arrested him on suspicion of disseminating extremist material.

He was questioned at a London police station and was released on bail until July.

Officers also carried out a search at a residential address in south west London and investigations are continuing.

Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the Met's counter-terrorism command, said: “We work closely with other partner agencies to monitor our ports and borders and the powers we have help us protect the UK from threats potential terrorists.

“This is also another example of a teenager being arrested for terrorism offenses and is a worrying trend we have seen for some time.
