Teenager arrested after woman attacked on flight from Glasgow to Tenerife

A teenager has been arrested after a woman was allegedly attacked on a plane from Glasgow to Tenerife which was due to divert to Ireland.

The youth, believed to be from Motherwell, allegedly assaulted a woman in her 20s during Tuesday's robbery.

Irish police said they were alerted shortly after 5:30 p.m. to reports of a “disturbance” on the Jet2 flight.

The plane diverted to Shannon Airport, County Clare.

An Garda Siochana said in a statement: “The plane diverted to Shannon Airport, where Gardai boarded the plane.

“During the incident, a woman in her twenties was attacked.

“A man in his late teens was arrested in connection with the incident under the Non-Fatal Offenses Against the Person Act 1997.

“He is currently detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984, at a Garda station in County Clare.

“Investigations are ongoing.”

The man who was arrested is believed to be from Motherwell, North Lanarkshire.

Jet2 said a rescue plane and crew were immediately flown to Shannon Airport to take customers to Tenerife.

The company apologized to its customers for the delay and pledged to fully support the investigation.
