Teenager arrested after reports man seen 'running away with gun' in Scunthorpe

A teenager has been arrested following reports someone was seen with a weapon in Scunthorpe.

The incident happened on Tuesday, July 2. A Humberside Police spokesperson said: “We received a call at around 9am from a member of the public who reported concerns after seeing a man running away while carrying what he believed to be a firearm in the Normanby Road area.




“Police officers were deployed to the scene and after an extensive search a juvenile was located and arrested nearby in connection with the incident. A suspected air pistol was also located and seized by officers.”

Chief Inspector Simon Duffield said: “I know that reports of this nature can rightly cause concern to people in the area and I want to reassure you that we always treat these types of calls as a priority. Following investigation, it was established that the area was safe and there was no threat or risk to the public.”

“A 17-year-old boy has since been released on police bail and our inquiries into this matter continue. I would encourage anyone with information, particularly CCTV or dash cam footage from the area at the time, who has not yet spoken to us, to call our non-emergency line 101 quoting log 88 of 2 July.”
