Teenager appears in court following fatal Shipston crash

THE TEENAGER charged with three counts of causing death by dangerous driving following a triple fatal collision in Shipston last year has appeared in court.

Edward Spencer, from Newbold-on-Stour, was the driver of a Ford Fiesta containing three other teenagers walking home from school together when they were involved in a collision with a Fiat 500 on the B4035 Campden Road at around 4.10pm on Friday April 21th. 2023.

Harry Purcell, 17, Matilda “Tilly” Seccombe, 16, and Frank Wormald, 16, died in the crash.

The occupants of the Fiat 500 – a woman and two children – were taken to hospital with serious injuries and continue to receive treatment for their injuries.



Mr Spencer appeared at Warwick Crown Court on Thursday June 13 to enter a plea, but a judge agreed to a request from his defense team for the 18-year-old to enter a plea at a later date.

Mr. Spencer was charged with three counts of causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving and three counts of causing serious injury by careless or inconsiderate driving.

A plea hearing date has been set for September 5 and a tentative trial date set for March 3, 2025.

Mr Spencer remained on conditional release and was told he must live at the address he gave to the court, with the exception of pre-booked family holidays.
