Teenager and convicted felon arrested after police find stolen guns

URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — An 18-year-old is under arrest in Champaign County after the sheriff's office said he was in possession of several firearms, including ones reported stolen, although that he be prohibited from possessing them.

Sheriff Dustin Heuerman said Shance Dalton was a convicted felon who was the subject of a search warrant for a home on Northwood Drive in Urbana early Thursday morning. Heuerman said his deputies received information that Dalton was in possession of multiple weapons.

A search of Northwood's home verified the authenticity of the information. Heuerman said the Champaign County Street Crimes Task Force, with assistance from the Champaign County METRO SWAT Team, found four guns – two that had been modified into fully automatic weapons and two that were Armalite style. Two of the guns had been reported stolen – one in the area and one out of state.

As a result of the investigation and search, Dalton was arrested and booked into the Champaign County Jail. He faces charges of felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of a machine gun and possession of a stolen weapon.
