South Australian police allege the 18-year-old suspect approached the 18-year-old driver as he got out of his car, punched him several times and demanded the car.

The young victim pushed the accused away, but suffered a head injury, police said.

His mother, Vishaka Varandani, said her son was punched 40 times.

“There was blood everywhere,” Varandani said.

“He thought Rostrevor was a very safe area, but no.”

Shen Yuem, a local resident, said the victim arrived at her house looking for her.

“I was too scared to open the door,” he said.

The suspect, aged 18, was reportedly found armed with a knife and arrested.

Police said the 18-year-old man was charged with aggravated robbery, assaulting police and unlawful interference.

He was refused bail by police and is expected to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Thursday.
