Teenager admits to being drunk on May 19, mother says 'doctors asked her to exchange blood samples'

A 17-year-old boy involved in the Porsche accident in Pune on May 19, which claimed the lives of two young IT professionals, has confessed to the Pune police that he was under the influence alcohol at the time of the accident. According to India Today, citing police sources, the teenager admitted during interrogation that he was heavily drunk while driving and did not remember all the details of the incident.

Hindustan Times reported that during the interrogation session, which lasted over an hour, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the teenager said that due to his drunken state, he did not had no memory of the events leading to the accident. The interrogation took place in the presence of his mother, who was arrested on Saturday, as well as crime police officials, including deputy commissioner of police Sunil Tambe and the district child protection officer.

Despite persistent questioning, the minor remained unconscious and claimed to have no memory of his activities before the accident, according to police sources cited by HT.

A crime branch official, according to HT, revealed: “Our officials questioned the minor about his whereabouts before the accident, his presence in the Blak and Cosie pubs, driving the Porsche, details of the accident, the falsification of evidence, the collection of blood samples and “To all questions, the minor had only one answer: he had no memory because he was drunk”. Initial investigations revealed that the minor and his companions had consumed alcohol in the two pubs, generating a total bill of Rs 48,000.

In another development, The Times of India, quoting Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, reported that the mother of the minor driver, who was apprehended on Saturday for allegedly substituting her blood sample for that of her son, has informed the authorities that doctors at Sassoon General Hospital had informed him to provide his blood as a sample instead of that of his son.

Amitesh Kumar said, “We have recorded the statement of the woman (49). She told us that doctors at the hospital told her to give her blood as a sample instead of her son's. She pretended not to know why the doctors told her. SO”.

Subsequently, a Pune court granted police custody to the boy's parents till June 5 in connection with the tampering of evidence in the case. Both parents are under investigation for their alleged involvement in altering the minor's blood sample following the May 19 accident.

Additionally, police arrested the minor's grandfather, Surendra Agarwal, on charges of kidnapping the family's driver and forcing him to take responsibility for the accident. Meanwhile, two doctors and a hospital employee were arrested for allegedly exchanging blood samples from the minor.

Police filed three separate complaints related to the crash, including one against the bar that served alcohol to the underage driver. Additionally, the boy's father faces charges for allowing him to drive without a valid license, further complicating the legal process surrounding the accident.
