Teenage siblings hospitalized after targeted drive-by in Birmingham

Birmingham police are urging witnesses to come forward after teenage siblings were shot during a drive-by Monday night. The 15-year-old girl is in critical condition; his 14-year-old brother was shot in the leg and is expected to make a full recovery. It happened at a gas station on Bessemer Road around 9:40 p.m. Monday. A group of young people were gathered next to a U-Haul van and a pickup truck. A vehicle came to the corner of Bessemer Road, turned right here and opened fire. The owner of Gas Land shared security video of the shooting and a 15-year-old girl is left motionless. Wadh Nasher said nothing like this has happened here since he's owned the business. “I was very sad to see young people like him get killed or shot. It's very sad. Being near a shooting is very scary for people,” he said. Birmingham police said they received the shooting spotter's notification at 9:40 p.m. Now detectives are following leads to uncover which led to the shooting Officer Truman Fitzgerald said, “We believe some sort of party took place before this and these victims may have been part of it. Fitzgerald said detectives believe the siblings were targeted, and someone knows why. “We're still trying to contact just businesses in the area, to see if they had surveillance footage, but the key is finding out the men and women who were there. parking lot that saw something,” he said. Nasher has already turned over his video footage of the shooting and its aftermath to police. He hopes it will help find the person or people responsible. “We will help the police to, you know, find out who did this and help them with anything related to the investigation,” Nasher said. Birmingham police said they received the shooting spotter's notification at 9:40 p.m. Now detectives are following leads to find out what led to the shooting.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald said, “We believe there was some sort of party going on before this. And these victims could be among them.

Fitzgerald said detectives believe the siblings were targeted, and someone knows why.

“We're still trying to contact just businesses in the area to see if they had surveillance footage. But the key is finding out the men and women who were in the parking lot and saw something,” he said.

Nasher has already turned over his video footage of the shooting and its aftermath to police. He hopes this will help find the person or people responsible.

“We're going to help the police, you know, find out who did this and help them with anything related to the investigation,” Nasher said.
