Teenage girls rescued and transported safely to Ghana will return to Nigeria next week – FG – TheCitizen

Teenage girls trafficked to Ghana for prostitution are safe and expected to return to Nigeria next week, according to the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa.

Dabiri-Erewa revealed this in an interview on TVC on Saturday.

More than 10 Nigerian teenage girls who were allegedly trafficked to Ghana for prostitution have been rescued.

The girls, all aged under 18, were allegedly lured from Nigeria to Ghana by an anonymous man who has now been arrested by the Ghana Police.

According to the head of NIDCOM, the girls were rescued by the Nigerians of the Diaspora Organization (NIDO), an association which brings together Nigerians living in Ghana.

In a viral video showing the girls after their rescue, a NIDO official said: “We just rescued all these girls from one person, innocent Nigerian children who were brought here to do what they would not have not wanted to do. .

“They are powerless. They selected them and sent them into prostitution and they collected money from these innocent children.

“These are young girls trafficked to Ghana for prostitution. We thank Chief Callistus, President of Nido Ghana, for ensuring the arrest of the perpetrator. I'm sure @naptipnigeria will follow up, very, very heartbreaking.

The NIDCOM boss, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), described the development as heartbreaking and asked the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) to take up the matter.

“These are young girls being trafficked to Ghana for prostitution,” she cited a viral video showing the girls. “We thank Chief Callistus, Chairman of NIDO Ghana, for ensuring the arrest of the perpetrator. I'm sure NAPTIP will follow up, it's very heartbreaking.

In a follow-up message, Dabiri-Erewa said another group of girls had been rescued. “The culprit will be brought to justice in Ghana next week and arrangements will be made to bring the rescued girls back to Nigeria,” she wrote, insisting that the traffickers must be named and shamed.

“They are worse than the drug lords!” And as long as they move freely, young, innocent children will continue to be trafficked! »
