Teen who fired shots near gun violence awareness event arrested: MVPD

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. — The teenager accused of firing shots as a community gathered for a gun violence awareness event has been taken into custody.

On Tuesday shortly after 7 p.m., Jayden Campbell, 18, of Mount Vernon, was arrested in the Bronx in connection with the shooting that occurred last Friday at 42 West 4th Street, across from the Doles Center backyard.

A gun violence awareness event was taking place at the venue when Mount Vernon police, who were already in the area for the event, witnessed gunfire. They immediately pursued the suspect, but he managed to flee.

No casualties were reported and there was no evidence of property damage resulting from the incident, police said at the time.

Campbell was charged with attempted second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He is currently being held with bail set at $70,000 cash, $150,000 surety or $250,000 partially secured bond.

The Mount Vernon Police Department thanked the NYPD for their cooperation and assistance in capturing the suspect.
