Teen suspect in Omaha high school parking lot incident turns himself in

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Authorities searching for 17-year-old after a shot was fired during a gathering in the parking lot of Elkhorn North High School earlier this month, turned themselves in to the Douglas County Sheriff .

Aden Ashburn, who had been considered “armed and dangerous,” turned himself in Friday morning, according to an update from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. He faces charges of unlawful and intentional discharge of a firearm; use of a firearm to commit a crime; and illegal possession of a firearm by a juvenile offender.

DCSO said earlier this week that they planned to book him as an adult.

Authorities said Aden was among four people who caused a disturbance in the Elkhorn North High School parking lot on Monday, June 3. Police responding to a “shots fired” call said they found several spent handgun shell casings, but no signs of physical injury.

DCSO said before taking Aden into custody that “the recent escalation of criminal activity is a major community concern.”

Witnesses told DCSO that about 100 young adults were loitering in the parking lot and at least one fight broke out there between two men. DCSO said at least four people were armed with handguns and one of them allegedly fired shots into the air several times, after which the crowd fled.

Three people were arrested in the days that followed.
