Ahmedabad: After 24 hours of fighting for her life, the 16-year-old girl who was hit by an SUV driven by a 17-year-old boy succumbed to her injuries at a private hospital on Saturday evening. The accident occurred on Friday in Thaltej. The accused minor, who passed his Class 10 exam this month, was driving his father's Fortuner. He is not entitled to a driving license because of his age. City traffic police officials said the boy's father and brother had been summoned and the father would face legal action in the case. According to city traffic police sources, Diya Prajapati, a class 10 student at a school in Thaltej, was walking outside her Sandipani Society residence around 4.30 pm when the speeding SUV rammed into her. Passers-by rushed the seriously injured Diya to a private hospital. The teenage driver tried to flee but was caught by members of the public and family members were called. An N division traffic police official said, “The boy's father, who is a land broker, told police that he was not at home when he was arrested. the boy took the car key and went for a ride. We will lodge a separate FIR against the boy's father in this case. » “We cannot take harsh measures according to the law. He cannot be stopped. However, the police action following this accident which occurred in the area monitored by DCP (West) Neeta Desai raises questions. Case displayed as “sensitive”: The FIR, which has to be uploaded on the Gujarat Police website, has been categorized as 'sensitive cases' – generally, offenses involving sexual violence fall under this category. The shocking incident follows a similar accident in Pune on May 19, killing two technicians. A minor boy, who was driving his father's Porsche Taycan at 200 kmph, hit a motorcycle near Landmark Society on Kalyaninagar-Airport road in Pune. Police later arrested the boy's father and grandfather in connection with the case and an alleged cover-up.
