Teen Mom Leah Messer Says Daughter Addie Was 'Caught in the Crossfire' of Jeremy Calvert's Harassment Drama (Exclusive)

The “Teen Mom: The Next Chapter” star filed for a restraining order after an incident in November.

Leah Messer is hoping to “move forward as a family” following the recent protective order drama she had with ex-husband Jeremy Calvert. THE Teen Mom: The Next Chapter The star opened up to PopCulture.com about taking legal action against her ex and having their 11-year-old daughter, Adalynn, being “caught in the crossfire” of the situation ahead of the Season 2 premiere on the MTV show on Thursday.

Messer told PopCulture that she “didn't expect” things to turn out the way they did with her ex in November. Calvert, who was married to Messer from 2012 to 2015, was arrested by police after he allegedly harassed her at the restaurant where she worked as a waitress, according to The sun. Shortly afterward, Messer filed for a protection order against Addie's father.

“It was a challenge,” said Messer, who also shares twin daughters Aliannah and Aleeah, 14, with ex-husband Corey Simms. “I think when you co-parent, you each have your own life, you make your own decisions and you have your own boundaries. For me, I just had enough and the bullying and harassment was unnecessary.” She continued, “I just had to take legal action. It was unfortunate because Addie was caught in the crossfire, but I [have] I tried my best to communicate with her about how we can move forward as a family. »

Messer also went through a complicated family dynamic with his father this season, reconnecting with him after years of estrangement to help him with his drug treatment. “Basically my limit was: If you really want to work, I'm going to show up and support you,” she said. “But I need to see effort. I need to see you actually do the work.”

“Rebuilding this [relationship] and then knowing when to really allow him into my daughter's life, that was a challenge for me to navigate,” the reality TV personality continued. Despite the family turmoil, the 16 and pregnant assured a former student: “Ali and Aleeah, they are successful in college and I think you will see that. You will see them talking about things that matter to them and using their voice, which I think is very difficult. “The conversations we've had over the years have formed an open dialogue with them.”

Teen Mom: The Next Chapter Season 2 premieres Thursday, May 30 at 8 p.m. ET on MTV.
