Teen killed, truck driver injured in two-vehicle crash near Collins

COVINGTON COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) – An 18-year-old was killed and the driver of a truck is seriously injured following a two-vehicle collision near Collins Tuesday afternoon.

According to Covington County Coroner Chris DaQuila, a call came in around 3:09 p.m. about the crash on Mississippi Highway 37.

DaQuila said a white 2008 Ford Ranger, driven by Kymonte Autry of Collins, was backing out of the driveway of a home near MS-37 when an 18-wheeler collided with the pickup.

The 18-wheeler immediately caught fire after colliding with the van.

Taylor Shows, public affairs officer for Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop J, said the driver of the 18-wheeler suffered life-threatening injuries. DaQuila said the driver of the 18-wheeler was airlifted to a local hospital for treatment.

According to the information released, the accident is the subject of an investigation by the MHP.

DaQuila said the Covington County Sheriff's Office was on scene to help direct traffic on the highway. MHP, Collins Fire Department and Covington County Ambulance Service were also on scene.
