Teen involved in South Bay crash last week dies

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A 16-year-old passenger who was seriously injured in a crash last week has died from his injuries, authorities said.

The boy died Friday at the hospital, the sergeant said. Anthony Molina of the Chula Vista Police Department said in a news release Wednesday.


The collision happened last Wednesday around 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Hunte Parkway and Exploration Falls Drive.

A young driver and a 16-year-old boy, both cousins, were in a Ford pickup truck traveling westbound in the 1800 block of Hunte Parkway when the vehicle left the roadway, collided with a tree and hit a fire hydrant, authorities said. .

When first responders arrived, the driver had already removed the injured passenger from the van, police said. The victim was transported to hospital where he died from his serious injuries.

The underage driver and his family are cooperating with law enforcement.
