Teen Helicoptered to Hospital After Being Hit by Van in Cosby

COSBY, Tenn. (WATE) — A 13-year-old girl had to be airlifted to the hospital after being hit by a truck Thursday morning in Cocke County.

Officers responded to Holly Court Road in Cosby. An incident report states officers arrived at 9:45 a.m. and saw the teen's leg pinned under the truck.

Firefighters helped lift the vehicle and took the victim to Cosby High School where a landing zone was set up for a LifeStar helicopter. She was airlifted to the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

According to the report, the family told deputies the entire family was in the truck as it was backing out of the driveway when the truck slid out of the driveway and began to roll down an embankment.

The driver apparently put the truck in park and looked for a way to give it traction, but the truck continued to slide. As she tried to get out of the truck, the teen was thrown to the ground by the passenger door and the truck ran over her legs and abdomen.

The teenager was rushed to hospital. The report states that she was conscious and talking when first responders arrived.
