Teen driver linked to Harlem fire extinguisher assault on traffic cop finds himself handcuffed

A teenager allegedly involved in the assault of a Harlem traffic cop, who was hit in the face with a fire extinguisher last week, faced the music Wednesday.

Ammar Ahhesheshi, 18, hung his head, seemingly ashamed, while handcuffed as detectives escorted him from the jail. 28th district on May 29 to face an indictment for assault.

According to police sources, Alhesheshi allegedly drove the gray sedan that stopped alongside the marked police vehicle of a 43-year-old uniformed traffic officer on duty at St. Nicholas Avenue and 118th Street. West, just before 7 o'clock. am May 23.

Within seconds, officers said, a masked passenger rolled down the vehicle's window and quickly unleashed a torrent of white mist from a fire extinguisher into the traffic cop's face.

The teens sped off north on St. Nicholas Avenue, authorities said, leaving the officer with severe eye irritation. He was then treated at Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital at St. Luke's.

Sources close to the investigation reported that police were able to track the gray sedan used in the attack to a parking lot using surveillance cameras.

Officers monitored the vehicle and apprehended Alhesheshi as he attempted to get into the sedan.

During his walk to the 28th Precinct station Wednesday evening, Alhesheshi refused to answer reporters' questions about the attack while avoiding cameras and being placed in the back of a waiting police vehicle.

Alhesheshi was charged with second-degree assault; cops say they are still looking for the teenage suspect who sprayed the fire extinguisher at the traffic cop.
