Teen dies one week after shooting

One of two teenagers shot on a Hayward street last week has died, police said Thursday.

The victims – 17 and 18-year-old Pleasanton residents – were shot June 27 near Mission Boulevard and Industrial Parkway.

The 18-year-old suffered serious injuries and was taken off life support Wednesday, according to Hayward police. His name has not been released.

The 17-year-old was treated in hospital and has since been released.

The shooting was reported at 11:11 p.m. on June 27 and the victims were found near the 100 block of West Tennyson Road after fleeing and calling 911 for help.

There is no indication that the shooting is related to a murder that occurred the day before, on June 26, but that possibility has not been ruled out, police said. In that case, a 15-year-old from Rodeo was found shot to death around 2 a.m. near the 24000 block of Second Street, police said.

A second victim in the earlier shooting, a 13-year-old Hayward boy, was in critical but stable condition, police said.
