Teen dies after head-on collision in Winston-Salem, woman charged with drunk driving, police say

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP) — A 19-year-old died after a fatal head-on crash last month, and a woman has been charged in connection with the crash, according to the Winston-Salem Police Department.

At approximately 1:11 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, officers responded to the 6000 block of Bethabara Park Boulevard after receiving a report of a crash with injuries.

On site, police discovered two vehicles on the road. The drivers of each vehicle suffered minor injuries and were transported to local hospitals.

Junior Felipe Oliva Lanza, 19, of Winston-Salem, who was a passenger in one of the vehicles, was transported to a local hospital where he later died from injuries he suffered in the accident.

Investigators say a vehicle was traveling east on Bethabara Park Boulevard while the vehicle in which Lacan was a passenger was traveling west on Bethabara Park Boulevard when, “for unknown reasons,” the vehicle heading towards the east hit the vehicle that Lacan was leading. on.

On Tuesday, Janet Jacobo, 33, of Winston-Salem, was charged with hit-and-run and DUI in connection with the case.

She went to the magistrate's office where she was released on $50,000 unsecured bail.
