Teen detained for shooting in Ottawa park – Shaw Local

A boy was arrested Thursday in Naplate on felony charges after Ottawa police investigated a gunshot fired into the air Wednesday evening. No injuries were reported.

Ottawa police received a report on Wednesday at 8:43 p.m. that an individual had fired a single gunshot into the air approximately 30 minutes earlier in the lower parking area of ​​Riverfront Park (the 400 block of Clinton Street).

“Although this area is near the Lions Club Carnival, the only shooting into the air did not occur at the carnival where Ottawa police officers work,” Ottawa police said in a statement. press release Thursday. “Ottawa Police patrol units responded and secured the area. »

Detectives gathered evidence along with witness statements and video of the shooting and identified a person of interest.

The boy was located and taken into custody Thursday in the 200 block of 18th Avenue in Naplate. The boy was also wanted on a La Salle County probation violation warrant at the time of his arrest.

The boy was taken to the La Salle County Detention Facility on a probation violation warrant as well as additional charges of reckless discharge of a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm by a person under 21, two class 4 felonies. An adult could face one to three years in prison; but young offenders face a more diverse set of sentencing options.

Additional charges may be filed as the investigation into the shooting is ongoing, police said.

A juvenile detention hearing is scheduled for Friday in La Salle County Circuit Court.
