Teen charged with first-degree murder after Forest Lawn stabbing

Calgary police say a 17-year-old boy has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with a stabbing that occurred Thursday evening in the Forest Lawn neighborhood.

Officers were called to the 1300 block of 41 Street SE around 7 p.m. after reports of a fight with a weapon.

At the scene, police found another teenager suffering from what appeared to be stab wounds, police said in a statement Friday.

He was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition, where he died from his injuries. An autopsy has been scheduled for June 10.

In an update released on Saturday, police indicated that the accused will appear in court on Monday, June 10. He cannot be appointed under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

This is the eighth homicide in Calgary in 2024.
