Teen arrested in connection with Peoria shooting that injured child

A 17-year-old boy was arrested Wednesday in connection with a Sunday afternoon shooting in East Bluff that left an 8-year-old child injured, putting his life in danger.

The Peoria Police Department said that at 3:20 p.m., a patrol unit and members of their Criminal Investigation Division arrested the 17-year-old in the 700 block of East Kansas Street, near where the shooting took place.

He was one of two suspects identified during the investigation into the shooting, which occurred Sunday around 4:52 p.m. An 8-year-old boy was found outside a Kansas Street home with a gunshot wound to the head . He was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police arrested Micah Stitts, 26, on a misdemeanor charge of endangering the health and life of a child. A pretrial detention hearing was held Monday, with Peoria County Circuit Judge Mark Gilles granting him release until trial.

Stitts is scheduled to appear in court July 10 at 10 a.m.

The 17-year-old was charged with reckless dismissal, reckless driving and endangering the health and life of a child. He is currently being held at the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center.
