Teen arrested for stabbing mother to death: Springfield police

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — The Springfield Police Department arrested a 16-year-old boy Saturday in connection with the stabbing death of his mother.

Police arrived on scene near Shadowfax and Camereigh Drives just after noon. They received a 911 call reporting someone had been stabbed.

A 51-year-old woman was found with several stab wounds. Her 16-year-old son was also found at the scene. Police said the victim was taken to Springfield Memorial Hospital, but did not survive.

Meanwhile, Springfield police began an investigation and collected evidence. The teen was ultimately arrested and charged with first-degree murder, aggravated battery and unlawful use of a weapon. He was then transferred to a juvenile detention center.
