Teen arrested for Central Park attack on New York police officer

NEW YORK, New York — The New York City Police Department has issued a public appeal for help in identifying suspects involved in an assault on a police officer in Central Park.

The incident occurred Friday afternoon, May 24, in Central Park, near West Drive and West 90th Street.

At approximately 4:05 p.m., while on duty and riding a marked scooter, an officer attempted to escort three motorcyclists out of the park.

During the collision, one of the motorcyclists hit the police officer, causing him to fall to the sidewalk.

The attackers fled and their current whereabouts are unknown. The injured officer was transported to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries.

Police arrested Brent Rosa, 18, of the Bronx, for the attack earlier this week.

    The intense heat from the fire also damaged vehicles parked across the street and burned a utility pole, leading to a power outage that affected hundreds of people in the area.

    The cause of the fire remains under investigation and repair crews are currently working on site. The community now faces the difficult task of reconstruction and recovery.

  • New York man charged with murder in deadly attack on Frederick Douglas Boulevard

    NEW YORK, New York — Early Saturday morning, the New York City Police Department responded to a scene at 2211 Frederick Douglas Boulevard. Officers arrived around 3:15 a.m. following a 911 call reporting an unconscious man at the scene.

    When police arrived, they found a 40-year-old man unconscious and unresponsive, suffering from head trauma. Emergency medical services quickly transported the victim to Mount Sinai Morningside, where he was pronounced dead.

    Victor Springer, a 35-year-old New York resident, was taken into custody as a person of interest in connection with the incident. He is currently charged with second degree murder.

    The cause of death has not yet been determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The investigation into the incident is ongoing and further details will be released as they become available.

    ABSECON, NJ — A tragic pedestrian accident left one dead on Route 30, also known as Absecon Boulevard. The Absecon Police Department responded to the scene shortly after 10 p.m. Friday, east of the Delilah Road overpass.

    The driver involved in the incident remained at the scene and is currently cooperating with the police investigation. The incident caused significant disruption, with traffic halted for around four hours.

    The Absecon Police Department's Traffic Unit is leading the investigation and is calling for witnesses or anyone with information about the crash to come forward.   • Police investigating after reports of shots fired in Bronx

    BRONX, NY — On Sunday afternoon, police were alerted to a shooting near 2204 Starling Avenue. An unknown person allegedly fired a gun across the street toward Castle Hill Avenue around 4:05 p.m.

    The shots were aimed at four unidentified individuals, but instead hit a commercial vehicle parked nearby. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident.

    The suspect, described as a thin man with a dark complexion and approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, was seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a multi-colored graphic pattern. The investigation into the shooting continues as authorities seek to identify and apprehend the individual involved.
