Teen arrested for attempted murder on Ocean City boardwalk

Authorities have arrested a teenager on attempted murder charges for stabbing a 15-year-old boy during a fight on the Ocean City boardwalk over Memorial Day weekend.

The teen was arrested Tuesday in Pleasantville, the Cape May County District Attorney's Office said.

The prosecutor's office did not immediately provide the teen's age or hometown, saying only that police in Hamilton, Atlantic County, also helped find the juvenile.

The teenager is charged, as a juvenile, with attempted murder, aggravated assault and weapons offenses. The names of people charged as juveniles are not released in New Jersey unless the case goes to adult court.

The teen, who authorities say stabbed the 15-year-old in the abdomen, is being held at a juvenile detention center. Investigators identified the attacker after interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage. The victim was treated and released from an area hospital.

The investigation is ongoing.

The stabbing took place on May 25 during a large fight that broke out shortly after 9 p.m. in the area of the Parkway and 10th Street.

Philadelphia resident Valantina Giunta said several fights between 9th and 10th streets escalated into fights. Customers on the promenade began hiding in nearby stores to avoid clashes between teenagers, some of whom she said were wearing medical masks and ski masks. Some increased their efforts to hide by wearing glasses and hooded sweatshirts, she said.
